That’s a good question. But, the solution can’t be found in a box of crackers. Even if we eliminate our snacking of carbohydrates, we have other issues—we can choose not to eat grains, but our live- stock can’t choose their meals. And, if you’ve had the chance to see what you’re last Thanksgiving turkey was fed, you might be feeling a bit queasy right about now.

“Our livestock is fat too,” says Dr. Lundell. “The meat we consume today—cattle, poultry, pork, and even fish—are now grain fed. A few years ago, I was in a cattle feedlot where the cattle were fattened on the scraps of potatoes from a French fry factory. So, I guess the burger and fries are really the same thing. That’s scary. Our meat may be less healthy than we are.”
